Below is what Tony had to say about his experience. . .
I hope you all enjoyed
watching the show. It was an amazing experience from
the moment I received the call from the band's manager
to coming home and sharing the excitement with family,
friends, colleagues and students. The band, manager,
guitar tech, and horn section travelled to Los Angeles
on Halloween (some strange sights at the airports and
in the streets) and were on set bright and early @ NBC
Studios Tuesday, Nov 1. We ran through the song about
5 times for sound levels, broke for lunch, rehearsed
the song 2 more times for camera angles, had a big
break to relax, get dressed (they even press your
clothes, do your hair, makeup, etc...) and then it was
SHOWTIME. They tape from about 4:30 5:30pm and by 6pm
we were back in the cars to the airport. Besides
performing in the show to the live studio audience, I
really enjoyed watching the Tonight Show Band during
the breaks -- when most people are watching
commercials, Kevin Eubanks and his group are totally
ROCKING the crowd. Their horn players are all over the
stage playing solos and the singer did an amazing
rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Living for the City" --
smokin'! Before we played, Jeff, Rich, and I (the sax
section) watched most of the show from the lower level
sound booth right behind the band to the right of the
audience.
