Tony Kidonakis has been performing and composing music in rock, blues, jazz, and classical settings since the age of 15. Born and raised in rural Morris, IL, Tony was drawn to the musical opportunities of the town, from school programs to professional group Blues Victim. Proficient on saxophone, keyboards, bass, and vocals, Tony went on to study at Northern Illinois University, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education.
Among the many ensembles Tony worked with in college was the world-renown NIU Jazz Ensemble, recording and traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe. Influenced by formal classical and jazz training as well as less formal blues and rock experience, the Beatles have inspired Tony tremendously, as he claims titles to the Chicago Beatlefest Sound-a-like Contests of 1995, 1996, 1999, and 2000. He has performed extensively in the greater Chicago area and the Midwest with jump/swing band The Rhythm Rockets, Beatles tribute Twist and Shout, original pop/rock group Eric Howell and the Implants, U2 tribute Even Better than the Real Thing, and more recently with Brother John, The Federales, The Redwalls, and The Cryan' Shames.
From 2002-2004, he performed 4-5 times a week at Chicago's premier dueling piano club, "Howl at the Moon." This is Tony's fifth school year as an elementary band director for Downers Grove Grade School District 58 in Downers Grove, IL. On the weekend Tony plays at various venues in and around Chicagoland. He is also available for private parties, weddings, and special events.
